METTA PHRASES

The Pali word “metta” or Sanskrit “maitri” is a multi-significant term meaning loving-kindness, friendliness, goodwill, benevolence, fellowship, amity, concord, inoffensiveness and non-violence.

The practice of metta begins with the self & then, as we practice, may be offered to all other sentient (living) beings.

Examples of metta phrases for self-compassion include:

  • May I give myself the compassion that I need.
  • May I learn to accept myself as I am.
  • May I forgive myself.
  • May I be strong.
  • May I be safe.
